Department of Zoology started as the Department of Biology in 1955 since the inception of the college. The department was bifurcated from the Botany and established as an independent department as the Department of Zoology in 1990. In the same year, department got approval to run Post-Graduate course in Zoology. At present, the Department offers the courses for B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Zoology with specialization in Ichthyology and Fisheries.  The Department has well organized Departmental Library with sufficient collection of books related to UG and PG courses. The laboratory of the Department is well equipped and rich in specimens of different phyla. Further, department has long history of organizing educational tours or excursion for the students M.Sc. Zoology. The students participate actively  in the extra-curricular and co-curricular of the college and university as well.
